UW Madison Academic Calendar 2022-2023: Important Dates

The University of Wisconsin–Madison, UW Madison Academic Calendar 2022-2023 has all the important dates and deadlines you need as a student. A semester system is used at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Most classes are held during the 15-week A1 or Regular session, which runs in the fall and spring. Some other classes last less time, start on a different week, or have different rules about when assignments are due.

UW Madison Academic Calendar fall 2022

Also in Fall 2022, there will be a 15-week session. Check the following UW Madison Academic Calendar dates for fall 2022 for important dates and due dates.

1. On April 4, 2022, students are given times to sign up for the Fall term (throughout the week).
2. On April 11, 2022, students can sign up for classes for the Fall term at their scheduled times.
3. The day for UW Madison fall move-in is August 29, 2022, and it lasts until September 1, 2022. Each resident will be given a specific move-in date and time between August 29 and September 1, 2022, when they get their room assignment in mid-June. This is based on the UW Madison academic calendar.
4. September 6, 2022, is the last day for students to drop out of fall school and not have a record of it on their transcript (after: students will be required to withdraw, transcript will show term information and withdrawal date).
5. Fall 2022 classes at UW Madison start on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.
6. Students (except Special and Guest) have until September 9, 2022, to sign up for the first time for the Fall term without having to pay a $50 late fee.
7. Students have until September 14, 2022, to drop a course or leave school without having the course(s) show up on their transcript (after: will show as a DR grade for individual courses).
8. The last day to add, swap, or change sections in a Fall term course is September 16, 2022. (after: need department permission).
   • After this date, students will have to pay a $50 late fee and get permission from their department and academic dean to start classes for the fall.
   • Students have until this date to drop a Fall term class and get a full tuition refund.
9. On September 30, 2022,
   • Students have until this date to drop a Fall term class and get a 50% tuition adjustment.
   • Students (except Graduate) have until this date to ask for a pass/fail or credit/audit option for a Fall term class.
   • Students (except Graduate) have until this date to change variable credits (after: need instructor permission & dean approval).
10. Graduate students have until November 24, 2022, to ask for the pass/fail or credit/audit options for a course in the Fall term. Graduate students have until the same day to change credits that aren’t fixed (after: need instructor permission & dean approval).
11. From November 24 to November 27, 2022, is Thanksgiving break.
12. On the academic calendar for UW Madison, November 25, 2022 is;
    • Students have until this date to get out of a Fall term class (after: need academic dean approval).
    • Students have until this date to add a Fall term course with permission from the department (after: need academic dean approval).
    • Students have until this date to change their status in an Honors Optional course (after: need instructor permission & academic dean approval).
    • Students (except Graduate) have until this date to drop out of Fall term.
13. Wednesday, December 14, 2022, is the last day of school for the Fall 2022 term. It’s also the last day that graduate students can drop out of the Fall term.
14. Thursday, December 15, 2022, is Study Day.
15. Final exams start on Friday, December 16, 2022, and end on Thursday, December 22, 2022.
16. Sunday, December 18, 2022, is graduation day (no tests).
17. From December 23, 2022, to January 23, 2023, is winter break.
18. Sunday, December 25, 2022, is the last day to turn in grades.

Spring 2023 on the academic calendar for UW Madison

The 15-week spring session of 2023 is a regular one. In the UW Madison Academic Calendar for spring 2023, these are the important dates and due dates.

1. The dates for moving in for Spring 2023 are January 21, 2022, and January 22, 2023.
2. Monday, January 23, 2023, is the last day for students to drop out of spring term 2023 and not have a record of it on their transcript (after: students will be required to withdraw, transcript will show term information and withdrawal date).
3. On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, the spring semester at UW Madison starts.
4. Students (except Special and Guest) have until January 27, 2023, to sign up for the Spring term for the first time without having to pay a $50 late fee.
5. On the UW Madison academic calendar, students have until February 1, 2023, to drop a course or withdraw from the university without having the course(s) show up on their transcript. After that date, the course(s) will show as a DR grade for each course.
6. Students have until February 3, 2023, to drop a Spring term class and get a full refund of their tuition. Students have until February 3, 2023 to add, swap, or change sections in a Spring term course (after that, they need permission from the department), and UW Madison students have until that date to start their first Spring 2023 enrollment (after that, they have to pay a $50 late fee and get permission from the department and academic dean).
7. Students have until February 17, 2023, to drop a Spring term class and get half of their tuition back. It is also the last day for students (except graduate students) to ask for pass/fail or credit/audit options for a Spring term course… and the deadline for students (except graduate students) to change variable credits (after: need instructor permission & dean approval).
8. From March 11 to March 19, 2023, UW Madison will be on spring break.
9. On Monday, March 20, 2023, classes will start up again.
10. Graduate students have until April 20, 2023, to ask for pass/fail or credit/audit options for a Spring term course. It is also the last day for graduate students to make changes to credits that aren’t fixed (after: need instructor permission & dean approval).
11. On the school calendar for UW Madison, April 21, 2023 is the;
    • Students can no longer drop a Spring term course after this date (after: need academic dean approval).
    • Students have until this date to add a Spring term course with permission from the department (after: need academic dean approval).
    • Students have until this date to change their status in an Honors Optional course (after: need instructor permission & academic dean approval).
    • Students (except Graduate) have until this date to drop out of Spring term.
12. Friday, May 5, 2023, is the last day of school. It is also the last day for graduate students at the University of Washington to drop out of the Spring term.
13. The next study day at UW Madison is on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
14. On the UW Madison academic calendar, the Spring Move-Out dates are May 6–14, 2023.
15. Exams begin on Sunday, May 7 2023 – Friday, May 12 2023.
16. On May 12, 2023, Doctoral and Medical Professional graduates will walk across the stage.
17. Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Law degrees will be given out on May 13, 2023.
18. The official date that students will be given their degrees if they graduate at the end of the Spring term in 2023 is May 14, 2023.
19. Monday, May 15, 2023, is the due date for grades.
20. The contract year for faculty ends on May 21, 2023.
