For the academic year 2023–2024, international students who wish to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland are eligible for UNIL Master’s Grants. Each year, UNIL awards about 10 scholarships.
Masters scholarships are merit-based awards given only to individuals with exceptional academic records who have graduated from overseas universities. The University of Lausanne in Switzerland competes to award the UNIL Master’s Grants to international students.

Application for the following programs is not possible:
- Master from the School of Medicine
- Master of education
- Master of Law from the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne
- Master of criminal Law, magistracy specialism
- Master of Science in Physical Education and Sports Didactics
- Master of Science in Health sciences
- All MASs (PhD programs)
Please Note: Only “international and comparative law” and “legal theory” are available as specialisations for the Master of Law, and both are accepting applications for Masters scholarships.
Scholarship Coverage
These advantages are given to recipients of University of Lausanne Scholarships:
- The scholarship is provided for the minimum required time frame of the student’s chosen program. With the exception of instances of categorical failure beyond the first year, it amounts to CHF 1,600 each month from 15 September to 15 July (or 10 months per year) for the entire term of the masters (one and a half years or two years depending on the chosen masters).
- Candidates are informed that the amount of the scholarship award does not cover the cost of living in Switzerland.
- Regarding this, we encourage applicants to refer to the page below, which provides information on the typical student budget at UNIL.
- With the exception of the CHF 80.00 in fees that must be paid each semester, students who are awarded scholarships are exempt from the fixed registration fees for the courses.
Eligibility Criteria for University of Lausanne Scholarship
Candidates for the University of Lausanne Scholarship must meet all of the criteria listed below:
- Required Languages: English or French
- Eligible Countries: All World Countries.
- To have achieved academic distinction during your studies, particularly by exceptionally strong performance.
- Prior to the start of the master’s program at UNIL, have earned a foreign university degree deemed to be equal to a bachelor’s degree at UNIL.
- Not to have already registered with UNIL.
- Should possess a B2 or higher level of French or English, depending on the language in which your selected master’s program is taught, on the European Language Portfolio worldwide scale.
- Have paid the administration cost of CHF 200.00.
How to Apply for University of Lausanne Scholarship?
If you would like to apply for a University of Lausanne scholarship, please follow these steps:
Required Documents for UNIL Master’s Grants:
- A photo the size of a passport that is attached to the application (in JPEG format).
- The application, properly filled out and signed.
- A verified copy of your academic credentials as well as the grade transcripts for all university-administered tests.
- A copy of your diploma from the secondary school. Any diplomas that are not written in French, German, English, or Italian must be translated and certified/notarized.
- A copy of the program description for your bachelor’s degree’s final semester, if one has not yet been earned.
- A copy of your passport or identity card.
- A cover letter.
- A complete curriculum vitae.
- A copy of the official certificate proving that you are fluent in the language being taught by the master (TOEFL or IELTS for English and DALF or DELF for French). The required level to complete the course is B2, at the very least.
- Two sealed original letters of recommendation from the candidate’s professors.
- Evidence of the CHF 200.00 administrative fee payment (application processing fee)
