UChicago Academic Calendar 2022-2023: Important Dates

The quarter system is used in Uchicago. There are four quarters: autumn, winter, spring, and summer. The quarter system is a unique part of how UChicago has always taught its students.

It lets law students at the University of Chicago take fewer classes each quarter than they would in a semester system, but more classes overall. Most quarters at UChicago last between 9 and 10 weeks.

Uchicago academic calendar autumn 2022

On the UChicago academic calendar for the autumn quarter of 2022, these are the important dates, registration dates, and deadlines. It also has the academic calendar for Uchicago law.

On July 25, 2022, the College Autumn Class Schedule will be made public.
Pre-registration for continuing college students starts on August 1, 2022, at 9:00 am and ends on August 5, 2022, at 5:00 pm.
From 9 a.m. on August 15, 2022, to 5 p.m. on August 19, 2022, first-year and transfer students can pre-register for non-humanities classes.
On September 6, 2022, the Autumn Schedule of Classes for Graduate classes will be made public.
Pre-registration for Harris School/Crown starts on September 7, 2022, at 8:30 am and ends on September 9, 2022, at 11:59 pm.
On the UChicago academic calendar for 2022-2023, the Add/Drop and Consent periods start on September 12, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. for students who are still in college.
On September 19, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., both new and returning graduate students will be able to sign up.
The day people move into UChicago in 2022 is Tuesday, September 20, at 8 a.m., and Wednesday, September 21, at 12 p.m.
Students who are coming back to school can start moving into dorms on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 8 a.m.
On Tuesday, September 27, 2022, Uchicago’s Autumn Quarter starts.
On Tuesday, September 27, 2022, fall classes will start.
Autumn 2022 Quarter: On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at 8:00 a.m., classes at the University of Chicago Law School start.
College students have until 5 p.m. on September 30, 2022, to make changes online.
College students will no longer be able to make changes or drop out online after 5 p.m. on October 14, 2022.
From Monday, November 21, 2022, to Friday, November 25, 2022, is Thanksgiving Break.
From Saturday, December 3, 2022, to Monday, December 5, 2022, college students can read.
From Tuesday, December 6, 2022, to Friday, December 9, 2022, the final exam for the Fall 2022 semester will be given.
On the UChicago law academic calendar for 2022-2023, the last day of classes for the Autumn 2022 Quarter is Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. This is because only Tuesday classes meet on this day to make up for Election Day.
The law school Autumn Quarter Reading Period (no classes) is from Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 8:00 am to Friday, December 9, 2022 at 5:00 pm.
Saturday, December 10, 2022, is the last day of the Autumn Quarter.
On Saturday, December 10, 2022, at noon, the residence halls will close for the winter break.
From Monday, December 12, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. to Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 5:00 p.m., law school students will have exams for the Autumn Quarter.

Chicago’s school schedule for winter 2023

The due date for publishing the class schedule is October 31, 2022.
Harris and Crown pre-registration starts at 8:30 am on November 2, 2022, and ends at 11:59 pm on November 4, 2022.
Pre-registration for college starts on November 7, 2022, at 9 a.m. and goes until November 11, 2022, at 5 p.m.
The first day for graduate students to sign up is November 14, 2022, at 8:30 a.m.
Add/Drop/Consent for college starts on December 5, 2022, at 9:00 AM.
The residence halls will reopen at 8 a.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2023.
On the UChicago academic calendar for Law students, classes for the Winter 2023 Quarter start on Monday, January 2, 2023 at 8:00 am.
On Tuesday, January 3, 2023, the Winter Quarter starts.
Classes for the winter start on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
College students can no longer make changes online after 5 p.m. on January 6, 2023. (online consent remains open).
Monday, January 16, 2023 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
College students will no longer be able to make changes or drop out online after 5 p.m. on January 20, 2023.
The last day of classes for the Winter 2023 Quarter at Uchicago Law School is Friday, March 3, 2023 at 5:00 pm.
From Monday, March 6, 2023, College Reading Period is on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
Law school’s Winter Quarter Reading Period (no classes all day) is on March 4, 2023, at 8 a.m.
From Monday, March 6, 2023, at 8:00 am to Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 5:00 pm, there will be exams for the Winter Quarter of law school.
Exams for the winter of 2023 run from Tuesday, March 7, 2023, to Friday, March 10, 2023.
The end of the Winter Quarter is on March 11, 2023.
From Saturday, March 11, 2023, to Sunday, March 19, 2023, UChicago will be on Spring Break.
Move-In day is at 8 a.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023, but only for students who are moving back into housing. This does not apply to students who are moving from Winter to Spring Quarters.

Spring 2023 on the UChicago school calendar

On the UChicago academic calendar for the Spring quarter of 2023, these are the important dates, registration dates, and deadlines. It also has the 1L, 2L, 3L, and LLM dates for the Uchicago law academic calendar.

The class schedule will be released on February 6, 2023.
Harris and Crown pre-registration starts at 8:30 a.m. on February 8, 2023, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on February 10, 2023.
College pre-registration is available from 9 a.m. on February 13, 2023, to 5 p.m. on February 17, 2023.
The first day for graduate students to sign up is February 20, 2023, at 8:30 a.m.
Add/Drop/Consent for college starts on March 13, 2023, at 9:00 AM.
On Monday, March 20, 2023, the Spring Quarter starts.
Monday, March 20, 2023, is the first day of school for everyone.
College students can no longer make changes online after 5 p.m. on March 28, 2023. (online consent remains open).
College students will no longer be able to make changes or drop out online after 5 p.m. on April 7, 2023.
On the UChicago academic calendar for Law students, the last day of 2L/3L/LLM Spring Quarter classes (including 1L electives) is Friday, May 12, 2023 at 5:00 pm.
Law students have time to read during the spring quarter (all day, no upper-level classes) Monday, May 15, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. is 2L/3L/LLM.
Spring Quarter Exams for 2Ls, 3Ls, and LLMs are from Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 8:00 am to Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 5:00 pm.
On the UChicago academic calendar for Law students, the last day of 1L Spring Quarter classes is Thursday, May 18, 2023.
Spring Quarter 1L Elective Exams are on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 8:00 am (Friday 1L classes must have an extra session for this day).
Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. is the 1L Spring Quarter Reading Period.
Saturday, May 20, 2023, to Monday, May 22, 2023, is College Reading Period.
Spring Quarter 1L Class Exams (Mon/Wed/Fri) (Non-1L Elective Classes) are from Monday, May 22, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. to Friday, May 26, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
From Tuesday, May 23, 2023, to Friday, May 26, 2023, the spring 2023 exam will be given.
Students who aren’t graduating will have to move out of their dorms on Saturday, May 27, 2023. (by 3 pm).
Monday, May 29 2023 is Memorial Day Holiday.
The ceremony is on June 3, 2023.
The end of the Spring Quarter is on June 3, 2023.
Sunday, June 4, 2023, is the last day for graduating students to move out of their dorms (by 3 pm).
