International students who aspire to mould themselves into the next generation of leaders in business reporting are welcome to apply to the Journalists in Residence Program. Young journalists from around the world working in all press kinds can benefit from a transformative learning environment through the Stigler Center Journalists in Residence Program, which was established in March 2017. It aims to mould the upcoming group of business reporting officials.
Selected participants will audit classes, take part in activities, collaborate with peers, and mingle with the top academics from the university during the program, which will last for about 12 weeks on our Hyde Park campus. The Chicago Booth participants will select their own curriculum. Examples of these courses include Crony Capitalism with Professor Luigi Zingales and The Firm and the Non-Market Environment with Professor Marianne Bertrand.
Participants in the program are expected to:
- Audit three classes
- Attend classes, engage in active learning, and finish all readings and assignments
- Attend Stigler lectures, lunches, social gatherings, and other events the centre recommends.
- Sign a letter of agreement with the centre to signify that you both agree on the program’s rules and expectations.

Scholarship Coverage
The Stigler Center’s Journalists in Residence Program offers the following advantages to its participants:
- payment of Chicago to/from economy flight tickets, as well as SEVIS and visa application fees
- A stipend* of $12,000 is provided to cover living costs during the 12-week programme.
- Chicago Booth will also provide business basics training.
- Attendance in Chicago Booth and university-wide seminars and workshops
- A chance to contribute to the ProMarket magazine
- Collaboration possibilities with Booth instructors, students, and other programme participants
- Designated study space
- Upon satisfactory program completion, a certificate of participation is awarded.
*For participants from outside the United States, a maximum of 14% of the stipend may be subject to tax withholding. For more details, please see the tax agreement between the United States and your nation.

- Three published news articles
- Three recent news pieces should be sent, preferably in English. The original articles should be submitted together with a translation if they are not in English.
- Please provide links to your video/audio files in a PDF or Word document, along with English transcriptions, for TV or radio journalists.
- Personal essays (500 words max)
- Explain your interest in the programme and the objectives you aim to accomplish via it.
- Tell us more about your background, areas of interest, and goals in the fields of economics and political economy.
- Two letters of recommendation
- Proof of English proficiency (if applicable)
- Non-native English speakers must provide evidence of their English language ability (this requirement is removed if your undergraduate or graduate degree was earned in an institution where English is the major language of instruction or in a nation where English is the official language). Proof of English competence examples include:
- Certificates or standardized test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, Cambridge, Duolingo, etc.)
- A national educational institution that has been accredited issues a diploma or certificate in English equivalence.
- Working knowledge of English in a professional setting and a letter from a manager attesting to your language abilities.
