All students at Simon Fraser University can email using SFU mail. The web application used to access SFU Mail is called the Outlook Web App (OWA). OWA doesn’t need to be set up and is accessible from anywhere using any device with an internet browser.
How to log into sfu mail
- Enter mail.sfu.ca into the browser’s address bar to access the Outlook Web App.
- Sign in using your SFU computing ID and password.
- You must specify your preferred language to English (Canada) and time zone to (UTC -08:00) Pacific Time if this is your first time checking in to OWA (US & Canada). Click Save.
- The Mail module will then be opened, where you can start utilising your SFU Mail account.
How to connect your iphone to sfu mail
- Scroll down and choose Accounts and Passwords in the Settings app.
- Select Add Account.
- Select Exchange.
- Type your SFU email address. It is optional to use the description field. Choose Next. Make sure you add computingID@sfu.ca as your email address for this step rather than your alias (firstname_lastname@sfu.ca).
- To confirm that you want to sign in using Microsoft Exchange, select Sign In.
- Wait for SFU Mail to verify your SFU credentials.
- Enter your SFU Mail password, then click Next.
- Press Save after choose the SFU Mail account features you want to connect to your phone. Activating Contacts will sync the contacts on your device with those in your SFU Mail account.
How to connect sfu mail to your android phone
The steps below can be used to link your SFU email to your Gmail account.
- Navigate to Settings > Accounts on your Android device.
- Select Add Account from the Accounts menu.
- The account you wish to add to your device is Exchange, so choose that.
- Type your SFU email address and click Next. Make sure you add computingID@sfu.ca as your email address for this step rather than your alias (firstname_lastname@sfu.ca).
- After entering your SFU password, click Next.
- When prompted to send your account information, click OK.
- Make sure “mail.sfu.ca” is selected as the server. Click Next.
- Press OK when prompted to authenticate your device’s security control from the SFU Mail server.
- Select Activate this device administrator as you scroll down.
- You will set up and start getting emails on your SFU email. Choose Next.
- Now one of the accounts set up on your device will be your SFU Exchange Mail account.
- You can access SFU Mail on your Android mobile by entering your email client.
How to change your display name in sfu mail
You could discover that SFU Mail’s display name is not configured to your intended name. By taking the actions listed below, this can be altered:
- In the address box of your browser, enter www.sfu.ca/sfuds. Click the Login button to sign in with your student account if you are currently logged in as a guest in order to have full access.
- Click [Edit My Entry] in the top right-hand corner of the screen after logging in.
- In the Display Name field, enter your desired first and last name, then press Save Changes. Note that most common accented/special characters (e.g., ç, é, ü, ñ, etc.) are now supported.
- After logging into OWA, click the profile picture in the upper right corner to see the switch to your preferred display name. Please be aware that it could take up to two hours for changes made in SFU Directory Services to reflect in SFU Mail.
How to change your sender address
A primary email address (formatted as computingID@sfu.ca) and one or more email aliases (often formatted as firstname_lastname@sfu.ca) are included with every SFU account.
The procedures listed below can be used to modify your SFU Mail’s sender or “From” address to your preferred email alias if you discover that it is not already set to that address:
- In the address box of your browser, enter www.sfu.ca/sfuds.
- By clicking the Login button, you can have full access by logging in with your student accounts.
- Click [Edit My Entry] in the top right-hand corner of the screen after logging in.
- Select the preferred alias by clicking the Preferred Email drop-down menu, then click Save Changes.
- After that, log into OWA by clicking your profile picture in the top right corner to see the update to your chosen sender address. Please be aware that it could take up to two hours for changes made in SFU Directory Services to reflect in SFU Mail.
How to add SFU email to Outlook
Outlook 2016 for PC and Mac is one of two desktop programmes for SFU Mail that is fully supported.
- Open Outlook 2016 on your computer and choose Next.
- When prompted to connect Outlook to an email account, click Yes.
- Fill in your SFU credentials and click Next.
- It can take some time to configure your account. Click Finish when it’s finished.
- The initial synchronisation of the data from your SFU Mail account may take the application several minutes. The setup of this application is finished after the data is synced.

The procedures listed below will help you add your new SFU Mail account if you were using Outlook on your PC.
- Click the File button in the top left corner of the desktop version of Outlook 2016 for PC.
- Click the + Add Account button under Account Information under Info.
- From step 3 onward, adhere to the setup instructions in the section above.
