FAQs
What is my ScarletMail email address?
You should set up and utilise an email alias, such as first.last@rutgers.edu. By going to netid.rutgers.edu and clicking on Manage Email Addresses, you may manage your delivery email addresses (where you want your emails delivered) and your aliases (the address you provide for people to contact you). Netid@scarletmail.rutgers.edu is your ScarletMail email address.
Can my ScarletMail account use my name, not my NetID?
It is not feasible to change the account name for ScarletMail accounts since the NetID must be used as the account name.
Instead of utilising the netid@scarletmail.rutgers.edu address for sending emails, you can create a custom email address, or mail alias, in the format “firstname.lastname@rutgers.edu,” and set ScarletMail (or most preferred mail applications) to use that address in the From line.
What if a student already has a personal Gmail account?
Students are still permitted to utilise their own Gmail accounts. Existing Gmail accounts are unaffected by a ScarletMail account, which is a different account. The benefit of a G Suite for Education account is that each user has unlimited storage for Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos in an environment free of ads while still maintaining your Rutgers identity via your email address.
The programs appearance and feel differ primarily. Behind the scenes, Google also gives Rutgers system administrators access to Google Apps and user accounts.
I deleted my message. Can it be retrieved?
A message or document that you delete will remain in your Trash folder for 30 days. It will be permanently removed after 30 days. The deleted message, however, cannot be recovered once you select “Empty Trash now” or “Delete permanently.” OIT lacks the ability to recover deleted data.
