Eligibility Criteria for Performance and Elite Sport Scholarships Award
These factors should be taken into account in order to qualify for the Elite Sport Scholar Award:
- Required Language: English
- Eligible Countries: All world countries
To be eligible for a scholarship, athletes must:
- Being a student at Cardiff Metropolitan University or about to start studying there (any course).
- Be participating in a sport that is sanctioned by British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) and support the university’s BUCs goals.
- Be participating at the top level in their sport (for example, national/international/professional) or competing at the international level.
- Be suggested by their NGB coach or the sport coach at the university.
- As a condition of the scholarship, students will be expected to represent Cardiff Met in the BUCS competition.
- In addition to representing Cardiff Met in public events, students will be required to take part in advertising and marketing campaigns for the School of Sports and Health Science. Loss of the scholarship could occur if this is not done.
- For the catering or general campus allowance to be processed, you must be registered as a full-time student at Cardiff Metropolitan University and be in possession of your Student ID Card.
- Payment of the prize in years 2 and 3 is contingent upon successful continuation of studies in the following year.
- Payment of the prize in years two and three will depend on how far along in your athletic development you are, as judged by the Performance Sport Panel.
- There won’t typically be a fourth year of the award, but those who pursue a 4-year program (including foundation) as well as those enrolled in part-time and/or postgraduate programs will be taken into account.
- Unless you have complete extenuating circumstances for all of your re-sit credits, the prize will not be given to anyone who needs to retake the exam for an entire year. The Academic Handbook contains more details on mitigating situations.
- Every year, you will need to reapply (form for completion will be supplied by the Head of Performance Sport).
- A franchise college student is not eligible for this scholarship. To inquire about the availability of scholarships and bursaries, kindly contact the college.
- You cannot get the Postgraduate Scholarship and the Elite Sport Scholar award at the same time.
- The reward package will be specifically designed to assist pupils in realising their sporting potential.
- The Head of Performance Sport, the Student Union Sports Manager, and a member of the academic staff will be on the panel that decides who receives the scholarship.
