You receive a McGill Mail as a student at McGill University to access any critical information the university may send you. It is an email from Microsoft Outlook that also has a calendar feature and a web-based email client.
How to log into McGill Mail
To access McGill Mail,
- Visit outlook.com/mcgill.ca to access the Outlook on the Web App (OWA).
- You will be required to enter your McGill Username and Password to log in.
- When you join up for the first time, you will be asked to choose your preferred language and time zone:
- After that, you’ll be taken to the Outlook web interface. Click the arrow to enlarge the Folders if you can’t see your Inbox folder.
- The icons at the bottom of the folders window let you choose between Mail, Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks.

How to set up McGill mail on your iOS device (iPhone, iPad)
The suggested method for accessing your McGill email on iOS devices is through the Outlook software from Microsoft. The only app that offers all of Outlook’s functionality and supports two-factor authentication, which is necessary for employees, professors, and students to access McGill, is this one.
- Download and install the Microsoft Outlook app on your iOS device.
- Enter your McGill email address (the same as your McGill Username unless you have created an alias); then click Sign in with Office 365.
- Your browser will then open the McGill sign-in page. Sign in by entering your McGill password.
- Click Allow if you are asked to accept notifications from Outlook.
- Suppose two-factor authentication is activated for your McGill account (2FA). You might next be asked to input your second authentication method, which could be either acknowledging a notification or entering a code that was provided to your smartphone.
- Your McGill emails ought to start appearing at this point.
- You can examine emails based on a variety of criteria by using the Filter button.
- A feature called the Focused Inbox moves emails you don’t typically open into the “Other” tab after automatically learning from your behaviour.
How to configure Mail app for iOS
On your iOS device, use the Mail app to set up and access McGill Mail.
- Go to Settings.
- Choose Mail.
- Select Accounts.
- Select Add Account.
- Choose Exchange.
- On the Exchange account information screen, enter the following details:
- Email: Enter your McGill Username
- Description: McGill Email
- Once the information has been entered, select Next.
- You will be asked to sign in using Microsoft to your “mcgill.ca” Exchange account. Select Sign in.
- Your McGill Username will already be entered on the McGill sign-in page (adfs.mcgill.ca). Sign in by providing the password connected to your McGill username.
- Suppose two-factor authentication is activated for your McGill account (2FA). You might next be asked to input your second authentication method, which could be either acknowledging a notification or entering a code that was provided to your smartphone.
- The Exchange screen should now appear, where you may choose which apps to utilise with your McGill Exchange account (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, etc.). To finish the configuration, tap Save.
- Your McGill Exchange profile has been set up. If you want to keep more (or less) Exchange data on your device, you might want to tweak the sync settings.
Configure your Android device to receive McGill Exchange email
- Download the Microsoft Outlook app from the Google Play store.
- You’ll be asked to “Get Started” after the programme has been installed.
- Click Continue after entering your McGill email address (first.last@mail.mcgill.ca, first.last@affiliate.mcgill.ca, or first.last@mcgill.ca).
- Your McGill Username and McGill Password must be entered on the sign-in page for McGill.
- Accept the request for sign-in. Depending on the options you chose when configuring your two-factor authentication for McGill, you will either receive a 6-digit SMS code or a pop-up message to confirm your identity.
- After completing all of this and creating the account, a box should appear asking whether you want to add another account.
