Scholarship Coverage

The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program offers the following advantages to the recipient:

  • At the beginning of your study programme and shortly following the conclusion of the scholarship period, economy class air travel from your home country to the host university is included. 
  • Scholars will also receive tuition for their graduate programme and the cost of basic medical insurance obtained via the university, in addition to a two-way air travel allowance of US $500 for each trip.
  • During the scholarship period, a monthly subsistence grant to cover all living costs is provided while on school (accommodations, food, etc., including books). Depending on the host nation, the allowance varies in size.

Please be aware that all JJ/WBGSP scholarships only cover the first two years of the graduate programme.

What is not included in the JJ/WBGSP scholarship

Eligibility Criteria for Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program

The following requirements must be satisfied by applicants in order to be eligible for The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program – JJWBGSP:

  • Required Languages: English
  • Eligible Countries: All World Countries
  • not possess dual citizenship with any advanced nation;
  • remain healthy;
  • possess a Bachelor’s (or comparable) degree that was acquired at least three years before the application deadline;
  • possess a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree and three years or more of recent job experience in the development sector;
  • be working in a paid, full-time position doing development-related work at the time you submit your scholarship application. A developing country national from a nation that will be on the most recent list of fragile and conflict states published to applicants in the Application Guidelines for each call for scholarships is the only exemption to this rule.
  • At least one of the JJ/WBGSP preferred university master’s programmes must be located outside of the applicant’s country of citizenship and country of residence listed when the call for scholarship applications opens on or before the Scholarship Application Deadline date, and admission must be unconditional (aside from funding). Before submitting your application, you must upload the letter of admission.
  • “Close related” is defined as: Mother, Father, Sister, Half-Sister, Brother, Half-Brother, Son, Daughter, Aunt, Uncle, Niece, or Nephew; * Not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, and/or staff of any sort of appointment of the World Bank Group;
  • Please be aware that all qualifying requirements are rigorously followed. Nothing is exempted. During an open call for applications, eligibility requirements WILL NOT change. However, between the end of one application procedure and the start of the next, this information is liable to alter.
