Duke Academic Calendar 2022-2023: Important Dates

On the Duke academic calendar, you can find the dates for drop/add, registration, holidays, important dates, and deadlines. Duke University has a credit system and a semester system. Most classes are worth one credit, and the average course load each semester is four classes (or credits). At Duke, a one-credit course is about the same as a three- or four-hour course at another school.

Duke academic calendar fall 2022

Here are the important dates, schedules, and deadlines on Duke’s academic calendar for Fall 2022.

1. New students at Duke will move in on Saturday, August 20, 2022. On Friday, August 26, 2022, first-year students at Duke will move in.
2. University of Duke On Saturday, August 20, 2022, orientation for first-year college students starts.
3. On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, orientation for new graduate students will start.
4. On August 24, 2022, at 4 p.m., new graduate and professional school students will have their convocation.
5. On Sunday, August 28, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., Duke University’s Convocation for first-year students will take place.
6. Classes for the Fall semester of 2022 at Duke start on Monday, August 29, at 8:30 a.m.
7. Monday, August 29, 2022, is the next day for Drop/Add.
8. Monday, September 5, 2022, is Labor Day. Duke University students will be going to class.
9. Drop/Add ends on Friday, September 9 2022.
10. The Duke academic calendar for 2022-2023 says that Founders’ Weekend will be from Thursday, September 29, to Sunday, October 2, 2022.
11. The last day to turn in midsemester grades is Friday, October 7, 2022.

17. The last day of graduate school at Duke University is Friday, December 2, 2022.
18. According to the Duke academic calendar for 2022-2023, the graduate reading period is from Saturday, December 3, 2022, to Wednesday, December 13, 2022.
19. Undergraduate classes at Duke will end on Friday, December 9, 2022.

Here are the important dates, schedules, and deadlines for Spring 2023 on the Duke academic calendar.

1. On Monday, October 24, 2022, shopping carts will be available for Spring 2023.
2. From Wednesday, November 2, 2022, to Monday, November 14, 2022, you can sign up for Spring 2023.
3. Drop/Add starts on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, for Spring 2023.
4. Duke Sunday, January 8, 2023 is move-in day for spring 2023 (when dorms open).
5. Classes for the spring semester of 2023 start on January 11, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. This day follows the Monday schedule for class meetings. Wednesday, January 11, 2023, is the next day for Spring 2023 Drop/Add.
6. Duke’s academic calendar for 2022-2023 says that regular class meetings will start on Thursday, January 12, 2023.
7. Classes start on Friday, January 13, 2023. They meet every other Wednesday and Friday.
8. Monday, January 16, 2023, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. There is no school.
9. Duke The last day to drop or add classes for the Spring 2023 semester is January 25, 2022.
10. Midsemester grades must be turned in by Friday, February 24, 2023.
11. Duke Spring break in 2023 will start at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 10, and end at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
12. After Spring break, school starts back up on Monday, March 20, 2023, at 8:30 am.
13. The last day to drop Spring 2023 classes with a W is Wednesday, March 29, 2023. (undergraduates only).
14. The last day of graduate school is Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
15. The Duke academic calendar for 2022-2023 says that graduate reading period is from Thursday, April 20, 2023, to Sunday, April 30, 2023.
16. The last day of college classes is Wednesday, April 26, 2023.
17. The reading period for undergraduate students is from Thursday, April 30, 2023, to Sunday, April 27, 2023.
18. Final exams start at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, and end at 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
19. On Friday, May 12, 2023, the ceremony starts.
20. On Sunday, May 14, 2023, Duke University will hold its graduation ceremonies and hand out degrees.
21. Undergraduates have until noon on Monday, May 8, 2023 to move out for the spring.

Here are the important dates, schedules, and deadlines on Duke’s academic calendar for Summer 2023.

1. On Monday, March 27, 2023, shopping carts will be available for Fall 2023.
2. On Monday, February 20, 2023, you can sign up for all Summer sessions.
3. Registration starts for Fall 2023, and it goes on until Wednesday, April 5, 2023, for Summer 2023.
4. The last day to sign up for Fall 2023 is Thursday, April 13, 2023. On that same day, you can still sign up for Summer 2023.
5. Drop/Add starts on Friday, April 14, 2023, for Fall 2023.
6. The move-in date for Summer Term I housing is Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
7. Duke Classes for Summer Term 1 start on May 17, 2023. This day follows the Monday schedule for class meetings (Therefore, all summer classes meet on this day).
8. Drop/Add will go on until May 17, 2023.
9. On Thursday, May 18, 2023, the regular class meeting schedule will begin.
10. The last day to drop or add for Term 1 is Friday, May 19, 2023.
11. Monday, May 29, 2023, is Memorial Day. There is no school.
12. The last day to drop Term 1 classes with a W is Wednesday, June 14, 2023. (undergraduates only).
13. Monday, June 19, 2023, is the Juneteenth holiday. There is no school.
14. The end of Term 1 is Monday, June 26, 2023.
15. Tuesday, June 27, 2023, is the day for reading.
16. Final exams for Term 1 will start on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, and go through Thursday, June 29, 2023.
17. Friday, June 30, at noon, is the last day of Summer Term I. (noon).
18. The move-in day for Summer Term II housing is Sunday, July 2, 2023.
19. Lessons for Summer Term 2 start on Monday, July 3, 2023.
20. On the Duke academic calendar for 2022-2023, the Fourth of July holiday will be on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. There is no school.
21. The last day to drop or add for Term 2 is Thursday, July 6, 2023.
22. Monday, July 31, 2023, is the last day to drop Term 2 classes with a “W.” (undergraduates only).
23. Classes for Term 2 will end on Thursday, August 10, 2023.
24. On Friday, August 11, 2023, you can read until 7 p.m.
25. Final exams for Term 2 will be held from 7 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023, to 10 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2023.
26. Monday, August 14, at noon, is the end of Summer Term II (noon).
