Brown’s school schedule for the fall of 2022

Here are the important dates and deadlines on the Brown academic calendar for the fall of 2022.

The last day to pay charges is Monday, August 1, 2022.
Wednesday, August 31, 2022, is move-in day at Brown.
College Orientation starts on Thursday, September 1, 2022.
Registration for the fall semester starts at 4 p.m. EDT on Friday, September 2, 2022, for all new undergraduates and all graduate students. It ends at 12 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Undergraduates can take a maximum of 4 credit hours.
On September 6, 2022, at 9 a.m. EDT, all students can sign up again for the fall semester. It is possible to get up to 5 credit hours.
The opening ceremony will be held on September 6, 2022, at 4 p.m.

The Fall Session at RISD starts on September 7, 2022.
Brown The first day of fall classes is Wednesday, September 7, 2022.
The last day to sign up for a Fall RISD course for free or change a grade option for a Fall RISD course is September 14, 2022. (5:00 p.m. EDT deadline).
The last day to add a course for free is Tuesday, September 20, 2022. (5:00 p.m. EDT deadline). Banner Web will be out of service for about an hour. Once relaunched, adding a course will cost $15 per course and require instructor approval.
On the Brown academic calendar, the last day to add a course (with a late fee), change from audit to credit, or change a grade option declaration is Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
Indigenous Peoples’ Day is on Monday, October 10, 2022. Brown University will be on break in 2022, so there will be no classes.
The last day to switch from credit to audit in a course is Friday, October 14, 2022. (5:00 p.m. EDT deadline).
The middle of the semester is on October 15, 2022.
Tuesday, October 18, 2022 is the deadline for sophomores going into their 5th semester to turn in their concentration declaration forms through ASK. If they don’t, their Banner registration will be held with a “No Concentration” hold. (5:00 p.m. EDT deadline).
Advisors must approve sophomores’ submitted concentrations in ASK by Thursday, November 3, 2022, or a “No Concentration” hold will be put on the student’s Banner registration. (5:00 p.m. EDT deadline).
Tuesday, November 8, 2022, is Election Day in the United States (2022 United States House of Representatives elections). No exercises at the University.
Students who are on “serious warning” and want to drop a class after November 14, 2022, must meet with an academic dean to get advice and a “drop code.”
The Thanksgiving break starts at noon on November 23 and ends on November 27, 2022.
Seniors in their second-to-last (usually 7th) semester have until Monday, November 28, 2022, to file a second or third concentration via ASK (5:00 p.m. EDT deadline). * Any declarations that are not “advisor approved” and entered into Banner by the deadline for advisor approval will not be accepted.

Fall RISD classes end on Monday, December 5, 2022.
Thursday, December 8, 2022, is the start of Reading Period, which is optional and up to the teacher.
The Brown academic calendar says that Monday, December 12, 2022 is the last day for students in their second-to-last semester (usually the sixth semester) to declare an undergraduate certificate in ASK.
Monday, December 12, 2022 is the last day for advisors to approve second or third concentrations in ASK for students in their penultimate semester (usually the 7th semester) who are declaring a second or third concentration (5:00 p.m. EST deadline).
Courses that don’t have a Reading Period end on Monday, December 12, 2022. Today is the last day to drop a class (the deadline is 5:00 p.m. EST) or ask an instructor for an incomplete.
Tuesday, December 13, 2022, is the last day for approved 7th-semester (or next-to-last-semester) undergraduates in eligible concentrations to submit writing done in the concentration in ASK to fulfill part II of the writing requirement.
The last exam will be given from Tuesday, December 13, to Wednesday, December 21, 2022, which includes Sunday.

Dates for the winter semester of 2023 at Brown

Here are the most important dates and due dates for the Winter session of 2023 at Brown.

Registration for Winter Session classes starts at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Thursday, November 17, 2022, and goes through Monday, December 5, 2022.
The tuition for Winter Session is due on December 14, 2022.
Online classes for the Winter Session start on Thursday, December 22, 2022.
The last day to change a grade option declaration is Tuesday, January 10, 2023.
On the Brown academic calendar for 2023, the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday is on Monday, January 16, 2023.
On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, the last tests for the Winter session will be given.
Tuesday, January 24, 2023, is the last day of Winter Session.
Dates for classes at Brown in Spring 2023
Here are the most important dates and due dates on the academic calendar for Spring 2023 at Brown.
Undergraduates who are on personal leave, such as for work or the military, or who are on Full-time Study Away status have until Saturday, October 1, 2022, to ask to return to Brown University for Spring 2023.
Monday, October 24, 2022, is the start of the advising period for spring pre-registration. For registration, students in their first through third semesters will need to get their advising PIN from their advisor.
Registration for Semester II, 2022-2023, starts at noon EST on Monday, November 7, 2022, for all continuing graduate students and undergraduates in semester level 7 or higher. Registration will end at midnight on Tuesday, November 8, and stay open until midnight on Wednesday, November 9.
Undergraduates in semester levels 05 and 06 can sign up for Semester II, 2022–2023 on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at noon EST. Students can’t sign up for 5th semester unless they have filed an approved concentration. You can still sign up until Tuesday, November 15, at 5:00 p.m.
Undergraduates in semesters 3 and 4 can sign up for Semester II, 2022–2023 on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at noon EST. Registration is still open until 5 p.m. EST on Tuesday, November 15. Undergraduates can take a maximum of 4 credit hours.
Registration opens for Semester II, 2022-23 for undergraduate students semester levels 01-02 on Friday, November 11 2022 at noon EST. Registration is still open until 5 p.m. EST on Tuesday, November 15. Undergraduates can take a maximum of 4 credit hours.
On the Brown academic calendar, the deadline for proposals for undergraduate group study projects (GISPs), independent study projects, and internships for credit that have been approved by the College Curriculum Council is Friday, November 11, 2022.
The deadline to sign up for Semester II, 2022-2023 is Tuesday, November 15, at 5:00 p.m. EST.
Undergraduates have until Thursday, December 1, 2022, to say that they are taking a break for Semester II.

Brown’s school schedule for the summer of 2022

Here are the important dates and deadlines on the Brown academic calendar for the summer of 2022.

Undergraduates who are still at Brown University can sign up for summer classes starting Monday, April 4 at 9:00 a.m. EDT and going through Thursday, April 14 at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
Undergraduates at Brown can sign up for fall classes from Tuesday, April 19, 2022, to Tuesday, April 26, 2022. During this time, you could no longer sign up for the summer.
Undergraduates at Brown can sign up for summer classes again on April 27, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. EDT, and they can do so until June 22, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
On Sunday, June 19, 2022, the doors to the dorms will open.
The Juneteenth Holiday is on Monday, June 20, 2022. No exercises at the University.
Monday, June 20, 2022, is the first day of Summer Session.
Classes for the Summer Session start on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.
The last day to change your mind is Wednesday, June 22. (All students MUST be in their registered courses by Thursday, June 23).
Independence Day is on Monday, July 4, 2022. No exercises at the University.
The last day to change grade options is Tuesday, July 5, 2022.
The last day of school is Friday, July 29, 2022.
The time for reading is from Saturday, July 30, 2022, to Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
The last day to drop a class is Tuesday, August 2, 2022. On the Brown academic calendar, today is the last day to start a Course Performance Report through ASK.
The last exam will be given from Wednesday, August 3, 2022, to Friday, August 5, 2022.
Friday, August 5, 2022, is the last day of Summer Session.
On August 6, 2022, the dorms will be closed.
