The following advantages are offered to recipients of ARES Scholarships:

Scholarship amounts for a bachelor’s and master’s degree:

  • Costs associated with international travel: up to one round-trip ticket in economy class on an IATA-approved carrier every academic year.
  • Living allowance:1150 €/month for a duration of 12 months.
  • 150 € is the indirect mission fee. When the grantee arrives, they receive this sum just once during their stay.
  • 700 € total: arrival allowance, tuition, and return costs. When the grantee arrives, they receive this sum just once during their stay.
  • Registration fees at the current rate for DGD grantees.
  • Insurance fees directly paid by ARES.
  • Inter-university training travel expenses are reimbursed based on actual expenses incurred, with receipts given.

Amounts for a training course grant:

  • Cost of international travel; one round-trip ticket in economy class on an airline recognised by IATA.
  • Living allowance; 83 € per day for stays of 8 to 17 days; 1400 € per month (fixed amount); 1400 € per month for stays of 1 to 6 months, prorated according to the number of days.
  • 150 € in indirect mission fees. When the grantee arrives, they receive this sum just once during their stay.
  • Insurance fees directly paid by ARES.
  • Travel costs for interuniversity trainings are compensated depending on actual costs spent, with documentation.

Eligibility Criteria for ARES Scholarships

The following requirements must be met by applicants in order to be eligible for ARES Scholarships:

  • Required Language: English, French
  • Eligible Countries: Nationals of Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia (only for training courses in English), Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Peru, the Philippines, the DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, and Vietnam.
  • Be a national of a developing nation. Candidates must be residing and employed in their country of origin at the time of application to be eligible.
  • Be younger than 40 years old and younger than 45 years old, respectively, at the time the training is planned to start.
  • Have completed studies at a Belgian institution and received a diploma equating to a graduate-level diploma. Nevertheless, alternative specifications can be required for some training programs.
  • Possess at least two years of relevant professional experience in a developing nation following graduation, or three years following graduation if the applicant holds a post-graduate degree from an institution in an industrialised nation.
  • Possess a strong command of both written and spoken French. It is crucial to have a sufficient level in the course’s language, both spoken and written, in order to participate in training sessions held in another language. For the applicant to participate in daily life in Belgium, a commitment to learning French is required.

How to Apply for ARES Scholarships?

  3. As long as you select the “Save and edit later” option, you are permitted to fill out your form many times. Your form can always be found on the Competitive calls tab of GIRAF’s My Tasks table under the heading “My Tasks.”
  4. Your application is sent to ARES as soon as you click “Submit my application,” and you are unable to change it after that point. It is still available for review in the My submitted files table.
