American University Library
University Librarian Jeehyun Davis
I'm happy to say hello to all students, faculty, staff, and the rest of the AU community. My dream for the AU Library is for it to be everything to everyone. It can be quiet and meditative or fun and group-based, but it is always open to everyone and helpful. Just find the right place for you, and you're home. I think that having access to information leads to civilization, fairness, the growth of knowledge, and new chances. Sharing information with as many people as possible is a big part of American University's culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. It's also at the heart of what we do. It's important for the Library as an organization to keep learning and growing so that we can meet the needs of our diverse community. The Library's hardworking faculty and staff are eager to show you everything we have to offer from our many sources of knowledge. As part of the curriculum, we offer both one-on-one help and expert instruction in how to find and use information. In our many online collections, you can find many tools that will help you find trustworthy sources. In the world we live in now, where there are oceans of information, the methods and skills we teach lead directly to academic success and good research. The Library's job of sharing information with as many people as possible is important to the culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion at American University. We are part of the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC), which is a group of universities in the area that works together to add to our collection and give us access to a wide range of resources outside of our walls. The collections at the AU Library are complicated and are always changing and growing. We want it to be easy for people in our community to find and use information, like the unique items in the Library's Archives and Special Collections. We continue to build on our strengths in a number of areas, such as local Washington, D.C. neighborhood history, our large and growing journalism and photojournalism collections, the U.S. Capitol Historical Society archive, and the Peace Corps Community Archive, to name a few. Access to information is no longer limited to books and computers, which is why we offer technology loans, poster and 3-D printing, and a Makerspace. We can't wait to see how these new ideas are used on campus and how they connect with our users. We hope that all of you will come to the Library often and feel free to tell us what you think about our services, facilities, and resources. As a learning organization, we are always trying to grow and get better, and we need your help to do that. With hopes for a successful and personally satisfying time in school. Sincerely, Jeehyun Davis

Eagle Service American University
What is Eagle Service?
Eagle Service is a web-based self-service option for students and their parents to pay and view their student account bill under the Student Finance tab.
The Student Finance tab gives a detailed, up-to-date, and easy-to-use account of a student’s finances for the current term and for previous terms. It breaks down:
- Charges include tuition, room and board, a meal plan, a required fee, and other costs.
- Payments: There are four types of payments: student, financial aid, sponsor, and deposit.
- Refunds are payments made to people who have credit balances.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) says that we need your permission before we can share your educational records. This is to protect your privacy. Parent (Person Proxy) Access lets a parent or guardian see the stated student account information.
If you have any questions about Eagle Services, please email aucentral@american.edu to get in touch with AU Central.

Reasons for American University Students being unable to log in
Authentication Failed – Invalid Password (The user name or password is incorrect.)
Students will have to try to log in again, as it was probably a bad combination of username and password. If this doesn’t work, the student will need to reset their password at American University Portal before trying again. Tell the student that there are times when the username and password get separated on the University side and there is nothing OAS can do about it. The only choice is to go to American University Portal and change the password.
Temporary Access has expired
The student had temporary access to SAMM, but that time has now run out. The Accessibility Specialist will have to look at the student’s account and remove the “Access Expires On:” date from the Student Profile.
Fail attempt more than 5 times.
The student has tried to log in 5 times but hasn’t been able to. Because of this, their account has been locked. The steps above are what a staff member needs to do to get into their account.
Username and password combination is wrong. Browser: XXXXXXX
The student can’t get into their account because they are using the wrong username or password. The students must try again. If they still can’t log in, they’ll need to reset their password at American University Portal before trying again.

Troubleshooting American University student login issues
The American University Portal doesn’t have a login button on their site
Owners of American University Portal can change everything about their site, including the login button. If the site owner has taken down the login button, please contact them directly to find out how to get into their login portal.
I logged in to the American University Portal. Why don’t I see all of the products I’m enrolled in?
You might make more than one account at the same Portal by accident by using different email addresses. This could happen if, when you bought the product, you misspelled your email address. If you can log in, but you can’t find or get to your course, you may have more than one account in the American University Portal.
You can only get to your products by logging into the account you used to buy them or sign up for them, so make sure you’re logging into the right account. If you don’t know if you’ve made more than one account.
I don’t remember my American University password; what should I do?
You might be having trouble logging in because the password for your student account is old or doesn’t work. If this is the case, you might want to change your password completely.
I used the wrong email address/no longer have access to my email address.
If you signed up with the wrong email address, don’t have access to the original email address anymore, or think you may have misspelled your email address, contact the American University Portal owner first to ask for help signing up with a different email address.
If you’ve tried to get in touch with the owner and haven’t heard back, contact our Customer Support team.
